General Summary:

The Lead Crisis Clinician position is responsible for ensuring exceptional customer service to any community member making contact with the Crisis R&R Center or requiring diversion intervention in the community. This position is responsible for the day to day assistance of supervision of Crisis R&R staff which includes Mobile Crisis Specialists and Peer Support Specialists to ensure provision of timely screening, assessment, referral, crisis interventions, and inpatient evaluations by phone or face-to-face, that adheres to the standards of LifeWays, Department of Community Health Access Standards, and Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).   This position is responsible for performing all duties of the Crisis R&R Clinicians which will include performing duties and participating in the Supervisor on-call schedule as part of the Mobile Crisis team, as needed.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for the day to day assistance of supervision of Crisis R&R staff which includes Mobile Crisis Specialists and Peer Support Specialists ensuring that established policies, procedures, and processes are being consistently implemented to ensure best consumer care and adhere to the standards of LifeWays, Department of Community Health Access Standards, and Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
  • Welcome each guest to the Crisis R & R, and determine if the guest is safe to utilize the Crisis R & R. 
  • Complete necessary assessments such as DASS 21 as outlined by procedures. 
  • Regularly check in with guests for ongoing safety assessments.
  • Pair guests with peer support specialists. 
  • Provide supervision to peer supports to assist them in engaging in conversations about recovery, and helping guests identify social determinants that may contribute to a guest's crisis. 
  • Develop programming for the Crisis R & R on recovery, coping skills, etc that guests can use.
  • Manages crisis/emergency situations which include the assessment of verbal and non-verbal presentation and external factors that suggest potential harm to self and others with supervisor consultation. 
  • Responsible for developing and following staffing schedules per direct supervisor that ensure the best customer service as well as meeting Department of Community Health (DCH) timeliness standards.  This includes scheduling and coordinating business hours schedules, reviewing hour's on-call crisis coverage and holiday hours, ensuring adequate staffing.  The Lead Crisis Clinician is required to cover shifts and duties of the Crisis R&R Clinician which including Supervisor on-call schedule, as needed.  
  • Monitoring and arranging follow-up calls, outreach, completing behavioral health assessments etc. for quality, and timeliness satisfaction.
  • Responsible for ensuring documentation of all information regarding consumer treatment in electronic    medical record and reviewing documentation of supervised staff to ensure accuracy, timelessness and        clinical appropriateness.
  • Travel is required to manage unexpected crisis situations throughout the State of Michigan at unexpected times to meet the needs of community members and consumers.  This may require travel and generally occur in Jackson and Hillsdale counties, but travel within the State of Michigan may be necessary.
  • Participates in assists Direct Supervisor with individual coaching of staff, in collaboration, on a monthly basis or as needed based on the employee's individual need.
  • Works collaborating with the Mobile Crisis Leadership staff on policy and decision-making needs for the Crisis R&R Center. Follows chain of command for communication within the Mobile Crisis Team.
  • Work a non-traditional schedule which may include evenings, weekends and/or holidays.

Required Education/Certification/Licensure:

  • Master's degree in Human Services field with Limited or Full licensure with the State of Michigan, billable to Michigan Medicaid.
  • Credentialing requirements for ongoing clinical privileges with LifeWays
  • CAFAS/PECFAS training, upon hire.
  • Mental Health First Aid Training, upon hire.
  • Lead Clinician will agree to developmental plan to acquire full licensure within no more than 3 years of acceptance of position.
  • Must have reliable transportation*

 

*LifeWays vehicles are provided to employees for the purpose of transporting consumers; employees must possess a valid MI motor vehicle operator's license and verification of an acceptable driving record.  Personal vehicles may be used for company business when drivers meet the following; valid MI motor vehicle operator's license and proof of personal vehicle insurance in accordance to guideline.
