General Summary

The Director of Outpatient Services is responsible for ensuring exceptional customer service and clinical care to any community member making contact with the Clinical Division. Provide management, supervision and clinical oversight of staff of Clinical programs including but not limited to Medical Services, Outpatient programs (therapy, jail, school, SUD), and Case Management programs (Targeted Case Management, Supports Coordination, HSW and b3)

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for day-to-day supervision, counseling, and discipline of staff. Also, responsible for performance evaluations, initial 30 and 90-day period for new employees and annual thereafter.
  • Responsible for development and monitoring departmental budgets.
  • Responsible for strategic planning, goals, objectives, and key performance indicators (KPIs) for the departments.
  • Provides input and oversight on department policies and procedures on an ongoing basis.
  • Provides oversight of departmental processes in conjunction with department supervisors and Chief Clinical & Quality Officer (CCQO).
  • Develops and monitors reports on each program to include at a minimum efficiency measures, effectiveness measures, accessibility, and consumer satisfaction.
  • Assures compliance with regulatory, payer, and licensing guidelines.
  • Monitors billing, coding, and payer credentialing procedures to ensure maximum reimbursement. 
  • Collects, analyzes and maintains data on program operations, staff performance, and key results.
  • Provides ongoing review of effectiveness, efficiency, satisfaction, and accessibility of program.
  • Provides individual supervision according to procedure.
  • Provide back up support to Director of Access and Crisis Services.
  • Work with Clinical Trainer and supervisors to ensure staff competencies via training, chart reviews, observation, etc. May be assigned to supervise or provide coverage to other locations, as necessary.
  • Manages critical crisis situations which exceed the scope of staff and supervisors.
  • Monitors capacity, utilization, and staffing levels to provide ongoing quality care to consumers.
  • Ensures staff clinical competency and uniformity.
  • Responsible for ensuring documentation of all information regarding consumer treatment in electronic medical record and reviewing documentation of supervised staff to ensure accuracy, timelessness and clinical appropriateness.
  • Be available via telephone to on-call supervisors for support and guidance after hours, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Responsible for adherence to all Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) standards.


  • Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Doctorate in Psychology, required.
  • Appropriate full licensure with the State of Michigan, required.
  • CPI non-violent physical crisis intervention training, upon hire.
  • Credentialing requirements for ongoing clinical privileges with LifeWays
  • CAFAS/PECFAS training, upon hire.
  • Mental Health First Aid Training, upon hire.
  • Must have reliable transportation*

Personal vehicles may be used for company business when drivers meet the following; valid MI motor vehicle operator's license and proof of personal vehicle insurance in accordance to guideline.
