The Clinician position is responsible for ensuring exceptional customer service and clinical care to any community member making contact with the Access Center or requiring intervention in the community. This position is responsible for providing timely and clinically appropriate crisis interventions, screenings, intakes, and referrals that adhere to the standards of LifeWays, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), Access Standards, and Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).  This position requires the ability to foster positive engagement with potential consumers that will assist them in beginning their path to recovery.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for answering the Access line and providing telephonic screenings within Access service standards.
  • Responsible for ensuring coordination both internally and externally by routing appropriate documents for all consumers referred in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for accurate and clinically competent documentation of all information regarding consumer treatment in electronic medical record within timeliness standards.
  • Completes service authorizations and admission assignments for services determined to be medically necessary through assessment.
  • Responsible for working closely with provider network staff, hospital staff, and natural supports to develop clinically sound diversion and safety planning when appropriate.  
  • Provides community based intakes and crisis services, as needed. Travel is required and generally occurs in Jackson and Hillsdale counties, but travel within the State of Michigan may be necessary.
  • Provides trauma-sensitive and recovery-focused services that result in a positive experience for the consumer.
  • Provides access screenings to determine if eligibility for Community Mental Health services, if appropriate completes intakes, and facilitates referrals based on clinical assessment and medical necessity.
  • Work a non-traditional schedule which may include evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Assist with Outpatient Therapy Services, as needed.
  • Provides on-call services, along with performing Access and Crisis Mobile duties, as assigned.
  • Responsible for adherence to all Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) standards.


  • Master's degree in Human Services field with appropriate licensure with the State of Michigan
  • Ability to be credentialed as a Mental Health Professional according to Michigan PIHP/CMHSP Provider Qualifications
  • Must have reliable transportation*


*LifeWays vehicles are provided to employees for the purpose of transporting consumers; employees must possess a valid MI motor vehicle operator's license and verification of an acceptable driving record.  Personal vehicles may be used for company business when drivers meet the following; valid MI motor vehicle operator's license and proof of personal vehicle insurance in accordance to guideline.
